The Projection Kernel
Basics first: push-forward, fibers, constants-as-settings, retention, and invariants
1) What the kernel is (formal)
DREAM models what we can observe in 4D as a push-forward through a finite-resolution projection kernel \(K_\lambda\). Let \(X\in\mathcal{M}_{10}\) be coordinates on the Meta-Manifold (MM), \(x\in\mathbb{R}^{1,3}\) the 4D coordinates, and \(\Phi(X)\) an MM field or density. Then

where \(K_\lambda\) has finite bandwidth/support and respects causal structure and positivity. The parameter \(\lambda\) summarizes the effective resolution at which MM content becomes visible in the 4D projection.
Think of reality as a rich scene passing through a consistent rendering rule. That rule is the kernel. It doesn’t invent features; it determines which parts of the underlying scene are clear at our resolution and which parts blur together.
The kernel is why physics looks orderly. Wherever you go, the same rendering rule operates, so the same patterns show up again and again. We don’t need to see every microscopic wrinkle to trust the big shapes—those big shapes are exactly what the kernel preserves.
In short: the kernel is the translator from “how reality is encoded” to “what we actually observe.”
2) Projection map & fibers (formal)
If \(F:\mathcal{M}_{10}\!\to\!\mathbb{R}^{1,3}\) is the projection, then the fiber over \(x\) is \(F^{-1}(x)\). For densities \(\rho_{10}\) on MM, one convenient notation is

where \(d\Sigma_6\) is the induced 6D measure on the fiber and \(J_F\) the Jacobian of \(F\). The fiber viewpoint makes clear that multiple MM states can map to the same 4D event, with finite resolution deciding how they combine.
Picture looking down at a city from a plane: many different rooftop details end up in the same tiny patch from far away. A fiber is like “everything in the city that lines up with that one patch.” When we project reality into 4D, many MM details can land on the same spot we see.
The kernel says how to combine those details. If they agree in the large, you get a clear signal. If they fight in tiny ways, those tiny disagreements cancel or blur. That is why a single 4D observation can summarize a lot of hidden structure without exposing every sub-detail.
Fibers highlight why measurement is about selection and averaging, not simply “reading off” a hidden value: several MM contributions are funneled into what we can actually register.
3) Constants as kernel settings (formal)
In DREAM, familiar constants are treated as part of the kernel’s specification: \(\boldsymbol{\theta}_K=\{c,\hbar,G,\ldots\}\). From inside the projection they are measured settings of \(K_\lambda\), not derived quantities. Modifying \(\boldsymbol{\theta}_K\) changes admissible invariants, spectra, and causal cones of the resulting 4D description.
The kernel has fixed parameters. The numbers we call “constants”—like the speed of light—are the values of those parameters as determined by experiment. They are not solved from within the 4D description itself.
Changing parameters would change which structures can remain stable and repeatable. The universal patterns we observe are precisely the ones compatible with the same parameter values.
In this view, “constants” belong to the translation rule that makes our universe look consistent, from lab measurements to cosmic scales.
4) Retention & classical emergence (formal)
Finite resolution induces retention of some information and loss of other information. A convenient family is

where \(\lambda\) is the effective smoothing scale and \(\lambda_q\) a characteristic quantum resolution. Low-order structure and topological labels typically survive better than high-frequency phase. The classical limit is then a retention story: as effective \(\lambda\) grows, fine detail falls away while robust structure persists.
Not everything survives the trip through the kernel equally well. Big, organized features last; tiny wiggles fade. That is what we mean by “retention”: what the world keeps versus what it lets go.
This naturally explains how the everyday “classical” world appears. At larger scales and over longer times, the blur is stronger on fine detail, so you experience stable objects, reliable cause-and-effect, and repeatable measurements.
No extra postulate is needed: classical behavior is the look of patterns that are robust under the same kernel that also reveals quantum behavior at finer scales.
5) What survives: invariants (formal)
The most reliable observables are those tied to invariants under \(K_\lambda\): conserved charges, topological classes, low-order correlation structures, and other features that remain stable under the finite-resolution push-forward.
Operationally, if a quantity is reproducible across observers and instruments that realize the same effective \(\lambda\), it is a strong candidate for a kernel-level invariant in the 4D description.
Invariants are the “keepsakes” of reality—the parts of the story that don’t change when you re-measure or look with a different (but equally sharp) tool. They are the backbone of laws.
That’s why science trusts repeating patterns: if a pattern survives different ways of looking, it’s likely tied to how the world is rendered, not to the quirks of a single experiment.
In DREAM, invariants are the core of what the kernel preserves, which is why they define so much of physics.
6) Measurement bandwidth (formal)
Instruments set an effective \(\lambda\): bandwidth, integration time, geometry, and noise all influence which MM features pass the kernel’s finite-resolution gate. Changing \(\lambda\) changes the balance of what is retained versus suppressed, without altering MM itself.
Tools matter. A microscope and a telescope both show the same world, but each has its own reach. In DREAM language, each tool sets a different effective resolution \(\lambda\).
When you switch tools, you don’t change reality—you change what gets through the kernel. Some features light up; others fade into the background. That’s expected, and it’s why careful experiments report their bandwidths and settings.
The consistent part across tools—the invariants—is what we promote to “laws.” The rest is context.
